What We Did This Weekend:
A Little Work, A Lot of Football

First off, we wanted to thank everyone that commented about our decision to adopt. We have the greatest friends and family in the world (to heck with superlatives), and we're extremely grateful for your love and support. Brookie is planning on periodically posting updates as we continue on with the process.

As usual, this Friday was our anointed date night. Brookie chose to use the gift certificate that Weston and Missy gave her for her birthday, and she wanted to return to the Longbranch Steakhouse in Overland Park, KS. That's where my birthday gift certificate was for, and although Brookie had the ability to choose a different restaurant, she really liked the food there. It was just as good, if not better than the first time. We capped our date night with The Hunt for Red October courtesy of Netflix (the best thing to happen to movie rentals since DVDs).

Saturday we had an early meeting with the Bishop. Our stake was just reorganized, and our ward lost quite a few members. Brookie was called to be the new Young Womens President, and she spent a good deal of time feeling overwhelmed the rest of the day. But she has a pair of good counselors to help her, and me for support at home.

That afternoon we spent the day doing chores. Brooke cleaned on the inside while I mowed the front and back yards. We also borrowed a wheelburrow to move some dirt around in the back to try to level out the area where our septic tank settled.

After working we sat down and watched a good Texas-Okalahoma football game before heading to the Simpson's to watch the BYU game. We were the recipients of some sweet southern hospitality as Heidi cooked up a nice spread including ribs, corn on the cob, biscuits, and fruit salad. It's always more fun to watch a BYU football game with someone who is knowledgable about football and passionate about BYU. Thomas Simpson fits that profile on both accounts.

And that's pretty much what we did this weekend. Nothing too exciting, but hey, some weekends are cooler than others, right?
