What We Did This Weekend:
Conference and Other Good Stuff

This was a great weekend. If only I hadn't gotten sick again (which is why I'm a tad late in posting this week). We watched General Conference on Saturday and Sunday, watched the BYU game with Thomas and Heidi Simpson, and cleaned out our basement (which may be why I got sick).

Friday night the Simpsons were kind enough to let us invite ourselves over to watch the BYU football game with them. We stopped at Five Guys Burgers and Fries on the way and picked up some of the best burgers ever for dinner. Growing up, In 'n' Out was the standard for a great burger. But, along comes Five Guys, and I could care less if I ever eat at another In 'n' Out. BYU beat Utah State, thanks to a great first quarter. The last three quarters were less than stellar.

Saturday we slept in. The mail came pretty early and there was a letter from the DMV notifying us that our requested vanity plate was now available for pick up at our local office. We couldn't wait, of course, so we did our normal cleaning routine and drove to the DMV to pick up our "ZION XB" license plate. It looks great. While we were out, we also stopped at Bed Bath and Beyond and bought a new mop, and a pair of new brooms (exciting, I know).

We got home just in time for the start of the Saturday morning session of Conference. The media player the Church is using is amazing. Did anyone else watch online? I was blown away by the quality of the picture and the lack of skipping and pixelization. Anyway, the Saturday morning session had just begun and I went to the kitchen to get something. Brooke called to me saying that they were going to announce some new temples. We were like, "Come on, just say "Lee's Summit." After the first two were outside the US, I was in the middle of saying that they were all going to be foreign when we heard, "The Greater Kansas City Area." We jumped out of our seats screaming for joy. It was awesome! We're so excited to have a temple in our area.* That one announcement sealed this conference as the best in recent history in our minds.

*I checked to see the timeline of past temples and it seems like it was generally 18 months between the announcements and the ground-breaking, and a total of 4-5 years before temples were dedicated. So I guess we still have 48-60 trips to St. Louis left before we have a closer temple.

Between sessions on Saturday we swept out our basement and did some serious cleaning and organization down there. We also put together some new shelving that helped to organize some of the clutter. There were a few chairs and a big, old coffee table down there that we put on the curb and they were all taken. But by Saturday night I felt like I had the flu. I may have actually had the flu, or it's possible that there was some mold in the basement that I aggitated while sweeping that made me sick. Either way, I was sick all day Sunday, and again Monday. Today I'm feeling better though, so you don't have to worry about me. And that's what we did this weekend.

...Oh, and I hope you like our new look as much as we do. I'll probably still be tweaking for a little while, but this is most of what I wanted to do with it.
