What We Did This Weekend:
Relaxing Yardwork

This weekend was great. On Friday night we had dinner at a great new restaurant and Saturday we had literally nothing to do.

Brookie and I finally had a chance to visit (in•grÄ“•di•ent), a fairly new restaurant at the Town Center in Overland Park. It's comparable to Panera Bread, but different enough to stand out, and good enough that we actually like it better than Panera. Brookie had been there before for lunch with some of her coworkers, but Friday night was my first time. Brookie had an Asian salad, and I had the pizza of the day, which was four slices of pepperoni and kalamata olives, with a pomodoro sauce. It was delicious and it came with a very generously sized Caesar salad on the side. We can't wait to go back again.

On Saturday the stars must have been aligned, because not only did we have nothing on the calendar, but the weather was gorgeous. Sunny, no wind, with temperatures in the low 70s. It was the perfect chance for us to catch up on some yard work. We stopped at the Home Depot and purchased a few things, highlighted by a leaf-blower/vacuum/mulcher. Our yard and our neighbors' yards have quite a few mature trees, which makes for quite a few leaves to gather in the fall. I always used to wish that I could make a pile of leaves big enough to really play in, but growing up, most of the leaves we had to rake were from our walnut tree and (a) it didn't have enough leaves for a really good pile, and (b) those leaves had a strange odor that I can't adequately describe. But, just to give you an idea, the folks on the other side of the street have 24 large bags full of leaves on the curb for the garbage man today. Their neighbors have another 16 or so.

We mowed the lawn, cleaned the gutters, gathered and mulched the leaves in our yard and spread the mulch in our flower beds. After three and a half hours, we called it a day and were happy with the outcome. Our yard may not be the most beautiful or the best kept, but with a little elbow grease, it's not too bad.

And that's what we did this weekend! Nothing too exciting, but we loved it.

Go to the board!

  1. That's exciting you got yourselves a leaf machine! It's much nicer to blow them around the yard than throw your back out with a rake.
Do you remember back when Dad bought his? He was asking Grandpa Reynolds about the one he had, 'cause he was interested in buying one. "Does it just blow, or does it suck, too?" Then Dad started stifling a big, red-faced laugh on the phone. It was good.
