What We Did This Weekend:
Trek Prep

We spent most of this weekend getting ready for future adventures. My brother Cameron is getting married this week, so there were a few things we worked on to get ready for that. Then, just a few days after we get back from Salt Lake City, we are headed to Nebraska (don't worry—we're not driving) for a three-day pioneer trek with the youth from church.

We ran a few more errands this weekend, but not enough to warrant a Google map showing everywhere we went. We also started walking. We go to the gym four or five times a week, but I usually run on the treadmill, and Brookie will do a combination of elliptical and some running herself. For me, though, walking has always been more difficult than running. And walking slowly is even worse. It just wears me out.

So, to start getting our bodies ready for the arduous task of a pioneer trek, Friday we decided to walk to and home from our gym, which is about three miles away. The trouble with walking to our gym is the lack of sidewalks. But, we avoided any unfortunate road-side accidents and spent about 15 minutes in the weight room before heading back home.

Saturday morning we had breakfast at the Raytown Summerfest and caught a few Chris Cakes to go with our sausage links and juice. After breakfast we took another walk to a thrift store we wanted to check out. This walk wasn't as far, but on our way home it started to rain—hard. We starting jogging, but we were still soaking wet when we reached our front porch.

We dried off, and headed to Little Caesars to pick up the pizzas for our trek activity with the youth. The kids tried learning how to whittle, but what we actually learned was that you need a good knife to really whittle, and none of us had one. The kids also helped us design and paint our family's flag.

Other than that, there wasn't too much going on this weekend. But I'm sure we'll make up for it in the coming weeks.

Go to the board!

  1. On myth busters they proved that you get more wet if run through the rain than walk.
