What We Did This Weekend:
Temple Trip and Psych

Brooke and I were able to go to the Winter Quarters Temple in Omaha this Saturday. Our stake was sponsoring a priest/laurel youth temple trip, so we decided we would go up early for a session and meet up with the youth group we they arrived. The problem was they left late and had to move their appointment from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. We found out about the change at about 12:50pm, so rather than hang out in 'beautiful' Omaha (especially this time of year), we decided to head home.

We used to prefer attending the Temple in Omaha to the St. Louis Temple because it was a little closer. But we've now decided that we'd much rather go to St. Louis. I like the drive more, and there are many more dining options on the way home. There's not much to eat between the Winter Quarters Temple and Kansas City. Saturday we decided to have lunch at Red Lobster on the way home in Council Bluffs, IA. The food was okay, but our experience solidified in my mind the idea that Red Lobster is easily one of the most-overrated chain restaurants in the universe.

Our car got unbelievably dirty from the drive. I've never seen so much salt on the roads. When we got home, we got a car wash, and it almost got clean. Because we were able to get home earlier than expected we were able to do our normal Saturday stuff, like the laundry (By the way, we were able to replace our flood-damaged dryer with a nicer, newer dryer for only $75, thanks to craigslist and some nice people in Olathe, KS). But without any college football on TV, we felt a little lost. College basketball doesn't seem to get exciting until March.

Luckily, we had received the second disk of Psych, season 1. Some of our friends (Big T and little h) had recommended that we check it out, so I found it on Netflix and had the first disk sent. It only had the pilot episode, but that was all we needed. Psych is a detective show where the heroes solve crimes. The catch is that the main character, Shawn, has led everyone but his father and his childhood-friend Gus to believe that he is a psychic. The show is extremely funny. And thankfully, it's much more clever than most current television programming. So, Saturday night we watched episodes 2-6 consecutively.

I guess you could say we're hooked. I haven't been this "psyched" (shameless pun definitely intended) about a show since Journeyman was canceled by NBC last year. And it hasn't been since Ed graced Wednesday nights on NBC that I have laughed as hard and as often at a TV show. Psych also has something else in common with Ed: after watching, you just want to quote funny lines to fellow fans of the show. Disk 3 should arrive later this week, and we can hardly wait.

That's pretty much what we did this weekend.

  3. Julie and I are also hooked on Pysch. Stephen perked our interest when we went up for the BYU Wyoming game. We didn't get a chance to watch it there but once we finally got around to it here we were hooked. It is probably my favorite show right now, even more than Chuck.

  4. Kaytlyn asked for the first 2 seasons of Psych for Christmas....so I've been watching them also. It's a fun fun show.

Congratulations on your Adoption approval! That is so exciting.
