Bonus Post:
Burrowing Critters 152, Todd & Brooke 1
Just a quick scoring update. We've been battling the moles (or they might be gophers, or burrowing ground squirrels, I'm not entirely sure) in our front yard all year, and we've been losing badly.
First we tried to use a large cage-like trap, and caught a opossum. So besides getting rid of the opossum, that didn't really work.
Next we tried smoke bomb things that we lit and stuck down the holes. I think those made them mad, because after using most of those, the tunnels and mounds of dirt in our front yard increased.
Then, we got serious. Catching them and/or driving them out didn't work. Maybe killing them would. We bought a little gizmo-trap that is pushed down on top of an active tunnel. There is a lever that sit atop a depressed portion of the tunnel, and when Mr. (or Mrs.) Mole comes back through and trips the lever, he/she becomes a nasty underground mole-kabob.
We set the trap, it went off, but that was last weekend. I finally checked it today, and there it was. When I pulled the trap up, there was a small tuft of gray fur on the end of one of the spikes.
Score one for the home team.
