What We Did This Weekend:
Just Around the Corner?
Things used to be so much easier before we worried about what we ate. We used to say that we didn't care. We liked food, and we weren't going to sacrifice our taste buds to the heathen gods of physical fitness.
Here's how the conversation used to go:
Todd: So where would you like to eat tonight?
Brookie: I don't know. What sounds good to you?
Todd: I don't care.* How about we go to Neighbor's Cafe?
Brookie: ...
Todd: Or we could go to the Salty Iguana.
Brookie: ... Those don't sound too bad. What about Noodles & Company?
Todd: That sounds good to me ...
Brookie: Or we could go to Applebee's.
Todd: Sure...
Brookie: So, what do you want?
Todd: I don't care. How about Five Guys?
Brookie: Oooo. That sounds good. Yeah, let's do that.
But now that we have become self-conscious calorie counters, the conversation on Friday went more like this:
Todd: So where would you like to eat tonight?
Brookie: I don't know. What sounds good to you?
Todd: I don't care. How about Neighbor's Cafe?
Brookie: ...
Todd: Or we could go to the Salty Iguana.
Brookie: ... (then she goes to the internet to search for the calorie count in tacos)
Brookie: What!? Do you know how many calories are in their tacos?
Todd: ...
Brookie: The California Pizza Kitchen sounds good. We could split a pizza.
Todd: Yeah ... But do you really want pizza three times this week?**
Brookie: ...
Todd: (looks up Five Guys nutrition facts, does some quick math in his said and says...) Well, I don't think we'll ever be able to eat at Five Guys ever again...
45 minutes later:
Todd: (trying to think of healthier options) What about Chipotle?
Brookie: That sounds good (Googles Chipotle Nutrition Facts).
Todd: (watching Brookie add the calories in a burrito) What!? That can't be right. I thought they were all organic and healthy and stuff.
Brookie: Just another reason that Cafe Rio is better.
15 minutes later (now almost twenty-one-hundred hours–I could have written 21:00, or 9:00pm for that matter, but if I spell it out, you're forced to read it like I'm saying it in my head):
Brookie: Would you eat at Culver's?
Todd: Yeah.
Brookie then showed me their nutrition facts, that were surprisingly better than Five Guys and Chipotle. So after deliberating and comparing calories for nearly an hour, we finally pulled into the Culver's on State Line Road just after 9:00pm. I splurged and had a Root Beer Float, and it was awesome. I think we'll be eating even more at Applebee's and Panera Bread in the future. Maybe we should just mix up which Applebee's we go to for some variety.
After dinner we watched episodes three and four of the second season of Psych, finishing off the first disk so we could mail it back Saturday and get a new one by Tuesday (We'll be very upset if the USPS decides to cut Saturday service).
Saturday was such a nice day. The temperature in the high 60s; maybe as high as 70. We were sitting at home and decided we should get out and enjoy it. We took a drive north to the Legends (near the Kansas Speedway), to walk around and do some serious window shopping. Not surprisingly, we weren't the only ones with that idea. The outdoor shopping center was packed. It was so nice to see people out having fun with their families. It was even nicer not needing to wear our heavy winter coats. It gave me hope that Spring is just around the corner.
Then this guy sees his shadow and dooms us to six more weeks of Winter.
What does he know anyway? And what does that say about meteorologists if an uneducated, simple groundhog named Phil has more credibility at predicting weather than they do?
Man. Six more weeks of winter? Now that is an "inconvenient truth."
And that's what we did this weekend.
Oh, and by the way... From now on you can check Brookie's Frank Lloyd Wright Travel Log called "Finding Frank Lloyd Wright" at findingfrank.blogspot.com. She's going to space out what we have already seen, but there will be great FLW information and pictures, mixed in with the stories that go along with our trips to each building.
