What We Did This Weekend: Temple Run
We haven't done a "What We Did This Weekend" post for a little while...so here you go:
Friday night we headed out for a fancy dinner at Costco. We ate pizza, and then shopped for some flour, BBQ sauce (Jack Stack, of course), oatmeal, oil, and sugar. We love the Costco date night. Not too many more of those left, though, as our membership will be expired in July. We had originally signed up for the membership for the baby formula, but we haven't used Costco formula now for several months, as Savannah finally decided to stick with one particular kind at Wal-Mart.
Saturday morning we headed up to the beautiful new Kansas City temple site.
We were there to participate in the 5K temple run. We borrowed a friend's jogging stroller, which definitely came in handy! I wasn't planning on running, since I hadn't "trained." But once I got started, I decided that I really wanted to run the whole thing. It's funny how closely life itself can be paralleled to running. Running is such a mental sport. If you tell yourself you can do it, and no matter what you are going to finish, then you probably can. Of course, the opposite is true, if you tell yourself that there is no way you could accomplish such a thing, then most likely you won't. That is true for just about anything in life. It all begins with having a little faith in yourself and in God being able to work through you.
Todd did great on the run! He got a personal best time, was 22nd overall, and 7th in his age group. It is not hard to get the spiritual symbolism of running toward the temple, just finishing the race no matter your time. Just like this life, we are all on our journey to return to our Heavenly Father, and while it is difficult along the way, we must press on. Keep going, there will be people there cheering you along your way. And it was wonderful to have my daughter there too, adding to the symbolism of helping our children return to their Heavenly Home.
Here are pre and post-run pictures:
After the run, we headed to the farmer's market for a few minutes for some flowers, spices, and samples. Then we ran home, where Todd quickly finished mowing the lawn before we were out the door again. We had another open house (which no one came to...) for our house and we hung out at a friend's house for a few hours so Savannah could have a nap.
On Sunday we went to church. This week was fast & testimony meeting, so we got to hear all the wonderful testimonies, and be strengthened from the wonderful meeting. And tonight we are making pizza for dinner! Yeah!
So, it was a weekend of firsts: first temple run, first 5K for Savannah, first sunburn (for Todd), first time playing catch this season (for Todd at our friends' house), and first trip to the farmers market for the season. A great weekend, which made Savannah happy, as you can see:
Go to the board!

I love your little family! Great pictures I have a fun one of you stretching pre-race.
ReplyDeleteI loved your testimony today you are such a wonderful example to me!
She always looks like such a happy girl! This wasn't Todd's first sunburn ever was it? Just the first this year? Great job on the 5K. I totally agree about the running attitude. You guys should train for a marathon. I bet you'd be amazing especially because you understand that it's all about the mind. We miss and love you guys!
