What We Did This Weekend:
Youth Temple Trip and Stuff
We started off our weekend by introducing the Claybrooks to the wonderfulness that is RC's. It has been one of our favorite restaurants in Kansas City since our first visit (it is Brooke's favorite, but I'd still rather eat at Waldo Pizza than anywhere else). They are famous for their fried chicken and that's what I had. Seth ordered the chicken-fried chicken (also very good), and Brooke and Melinda had the chicken strips (which are some of the best strips ever).
Saturday morning we were up early and on our way to the Temple in St. Louis again. This time we had three young women in the backseat. I think we've been to the last three youth temple trips over the past 18 months or so. They're always fun. We had a huge group. Our ward showed up for our session with 21 youth and quite a few adults. Then our session was merged with another Kansas City area ward that had an additional 12 youth and more adults. With a group that large and a temple worker insisting that each youth be proxy for 10 individuals, we were almost there for three hours. We stopped at the St. Louis Bread Company (known everywhere else as Panera Bread) before heading back West on I-70 across Missouri. The girls in the back seat slept for most of the trip, and we woke them up when we got home at 8:30pm, more than 12 hours after we left. So, it was kind of a long day, but still a good one.
Sunday was also long. Meetings forced us to be to church by 8:30am, and Todd had a meeting after church, so he finally got home at 3:30pm. We had the Primary Program in sacrament meeting which is always fun. There are always enough funny kid moments to keep us laughing the whole time. Looking at the group of kids, I thought how amazing it is that their first temple trip will probably be to the Kansas City Temple.
We had the Simpson family over for dinner at 4:00pm and we wowed them with some "Chick'n Lick'n Pork Chops." Their two kids Reagan and Miss Scarlett kept us thoroughly entertained for their entire visit. Reagan was gracious enough to share his fancy dance with us, and Scarlett ate everything in sight (and even a few things she had to search for). Good times.
And that's what we did this weekend (sorry, no odd videos and/or accents to accompany this post).
