What We Did This Weekend:
BBQ on the Roof

We had a pretty full agenda this past weekend. Brooke got home from work a little early so that we could make an appointment we had, and after that, we barely had time to change before we were out the door for the Elders Quorum BBQ Friday night.

Our past Elders Quorum activities were basically flops. I was fairly certain that this one would be a little better, but there was still a little doubt in my mind. Turns out that my doubting was totally unfounded. We had a great turn out, and ended up needing to pull out a pair of additional tables to accommodate everyone. It was definitely a successful activity, so hopefully we can start changing our reputation for poor parties.

Saturday morning we drove downtown to the Farmers' Market. I know I've said this before but we love that place. This time was the first time we made it there prior to lunchtime, so we finally got the full effect. By lunchtime many vendors are leaving and most, if not all of the street performers have called it a day. We left with a freshly baked, Amish strawberry-rhubarb pie, 15 ears of peaches 'n' cream corn, some fresh pita bread, and some strawberries.

Saturday ended up as our date night because of the church BBQ the night before. It was a musical night, as we had tickets for Fiddler on the Roof at Starlight Theatre. While we were on vacation, we missed their production of The Music Man, but we were able to trade those tickets for an additional pair to Fiddler, which allowed us to take some friends. We invited some friends from church to go out with us, and we had a good time.

We met them at Ciao! Bella, a little Italian restaurant we discovered in downtown Lee's Summit earlier this summer. Every one of us loved our meals, so there was no need for doggy-bags. Then, after dinner we drove north to the Starlight Theatre. Our friends had never been there, so it was a special treat for them. The show was great. The only small thing about it was Tevya. We just wished he'd have had a deeper voice (and maybe been a little bit taller). I decided that the only trouble with the feature-film musicals, like The Music Man, West Side Story, the Sound of Music, and Fiddler, is that you grow so accustomed to the lead roles in the movie, anyone else you ever see in the role just isn't as good. So, if I could avoid comparing the actor who played Tevya Saturday to the actor in the movie, the show would have been perfect.

Anyway, that's what we did this weekend.
