Kansas City...and a lot of catch up from August
I haven't blogged for awhile; it was a crazy month of August! We got to see lots of family throughout the month. My Dad and youngest brother came for a visit and it was great to hang out with them. A few weeks later another brother came, and we were so thankful to be able to go through the temple with him; he will leave on his mission in mid October. We also were able to serve at the Ronald McDonald house with some friends from church. One of our favorite family traditions! We also had a family reunion in the middle of the month in Ogden. It is so fun to see cousins. I think our favorite part was the Ogden Temple Open House. I was also thankful to get to see my mom!
Later in the month we moved to Lehi, UT. Moving is always stressful! But we are always excited for new adventures!
And at the end of the month we took a great trip to Kansas City! We left early on a Friday in a rented Altima. We decided to rent a car so we wouldn't have to worry about putting all those miles on our almost 10-year old Scion XB or any potential maintenance problems. The kids did great in the car! We drove to Denver the first day, stopping a few times for meals. But we made really good time and got to Denver around 4:00pm. We had reserved a place in someone's basement using Airbnb.com. It is a great service! People can rent out rooms, basements, apartments, or whole homes for a certain amount each night. We found a woman renting out her basement for $40 (much cheaper than a hotel), and it was great! We had a kitchen, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. The next day we got an early start again. We stopped for lunch in our favorite park in Hays, KS with the most awesome slide! We got to KC around dinner, then headed to our friends' Seth & Melinda's house.
Savannah was so so happy to see her BFF Sophie. They even sang little songs about being BFF's. They loved all the play time they got together. On Sunday we were super excited to go to church, and it still felt like home. We were so grateful to see all our ward family. In the evening we were invited to some friends for a Brazilian/Portuguese night. We didn't have anything to contribute, but it was a great time!
On Monday we enjoyed hanging out with our friends, as Seth and Sophie were both home for the holiday. We also got to see our neighbor, Gwen and her two boys. And we were also excited to go to lunch with Savannah's birth mother (and shopping of course)!
On Tuesday we made a stop by the middle school where I used to work and it was great to see lots of friends. Then we went to Savannah's birth mother's house and visited there. Then we all went to a new museum and out to lunch.
Tuesday evening we went to the Royals game. We went super early, of course. Kauffman stadium has a great outfield experience for the kids. While I fed Jackson, Savannah played on the playground, then rode the carousel. Then we all played miniature golf, and visited the Royals Hall of Fame. Todd was so excited when a Royals employee came up to Savannah with a ball asking if it was her first game. It wasn't, but he still gave her the ball, telling her that it had been hit out during batting practice that day (Todd was way more excited to get the ball than Savannah). Jackson did great during the game, and we all had a fun time. And the Royals won!
On Wednesday we made a trip up to the River Market to visit the spice man. We used to go to the farmer's market often and load up on produce, baked goods, and spices for our food storage. We were in need of a spice restock! Todd also got some fancy flour from the Italian market for making pizza. And we had to get a scone from the bakery, of course!
That afternoon some friends from church has organized a little lunch at someone's house. It was so fun to see all my sisters again!! And, they even threw together a little spontaneous shower with gifts for Jackson. That night we went to our favorite KC BBQ place: Pork 'n Pit. Yum!!
Thursday was Todd's birthday. We celebrated by going to the temple together in the morning. Then, of course, eating pizza, ice cream, and pie.
On Friday we headed back to Denver, and finished our trip on Saturday. It was so much fun!
