December 2012

December is always a fun-filled month around the Reynolds' Home. Thanks to a friend, we started doing an advent a couple years ago, which is a really great way to organize what could be a very busy month. A few of the highlights included:

• Grandma's visit from Utah. She got to stay for almost a week, and we had lots of fun going to Kaleidoscope, visiting Santa, playing, reading, cooking, and shopping.

• Stringing Popcorn...though it was all eaten  pretty quickly.

• Bell Ringing at Crown Center. So, normally we do it outside at a store. But earlier this season we had gone to Crown Center. We saw bell ringers inside, and we thought that looked great. So we switched to be inside. It was nice to be warm, but it was so busy that there wasn't much "business." Plus, they had indoor bells, which were much quieter. Luckily, Savannah would burst out in silly dance every now and then and always get people to reach inside their pockets for a donation. It is always a fun family activity we look forward to each year.

• Making gingerbread cookies. This was a new tradition for our advent, but turned out so fun! We ended up with a swimming suit man, Santa Claus, Elvis' grandma, a hula girl, scarf man, and many creative ones from Savannah.

• Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve we made pizza and had a nice devotional about the Savior. Christmas was quiet this year. Just the three of us. Imma came for dinner Christmas night and it was nice to have her! It was a nice Christmas. We had our traditional German Pancakes for breakfast. And then opened presents. Other than that, we just played.

• Todd's time off. Todd took a few days off so we could do fun activities. We went to a free children's museum on the Kansas side, that Savannah loves, because it is all about pretend play. Another day we went to Kaleidoscope. And another time we visited the Carousel at the mall, which she hasn't ever had the chance to do. So, we had a fun time being together and enjoying one another.

• We also enjoyed reading Christmas books together, having family movie night, visiting the Visitor's Center in Independence, making Christmas treats, and singing lots of songs. Savannah got really good at "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Jingle Bells," and "Deck the Halls."

I will also post about some of our highlights from the past year!
