What We Did This Weekend:
Luau and Salt Lake Fun
Three-day weekends are usually very full for us, but this weekend was even more packed because we flew to Salt Lake City on Saturday morning.
Friday night's activities provided plenty for a great blog post all by itself. Our ward had a big Luau Party that night, and we had a blast. The food was excellent. There was some amazing pulled-pork, teriyaki chicken, rice, and a few other authentic offerings. We also had a guava cake "contest" that had at least a dozen entries, which made more than enough for dessert. After we ate, we were treated to some hula dancing and other entertainment. Besides the professional performances by a group from Independence, the Relief Society and the Elders Quorum took the stage as well. The Sisters in the ward did a great hula dance and the Elders Quorum and I did the haka. That was pretty fun—especially the face-paint.
Saturday morning we flew to Salt Lake City to see family and for me to attend a work conference this week. We had dinner with most of my family (Cam and Leila were out on their Valentines date), and then my brother Weston and I found out about a little Valentines surprise that our wives had planned for us: Dancing at the Murray Arts Center (the MAC, for those in the know)!
Brookie and I hadn't been dancing at the MAC for a very long time. It used to be one of our favorite things to do. It's always great fun. The atmosphere is decidedly retro, and so are most of the patrons. The dancers are a funny mix of The Greatest Generation and Generation Me. We had forgotten almost every dance step we ever learned, but that didn't stop us from having a fun time.
Sunday was a banner day for the Reynolds family. The youngest boy, Marc, had his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. My dad is an Eagle. I am an Eagle. My brother Weston is, and Cameron is too. And now we have the complete set. It was really cool to be sitting in the Eagle's Nest with my brothers and my dad.
Monday night Brookie and I took over my mom's kitchen and turned it into T&B's Italian Bistro. We told Marc to get a date and find two other couples for a special "gourmet" dinner. On the night's menu was bruschetta, Italian cream sodas, green salads with the house creamy pesto dressing, garlic cheese bread, manicotti, and Brookie's chocolate dream.
Yeah. Pretty sweet. For those of you keeping score at home, that's a molten chocolate cake, topped with a scoop of chocolate gelato, whipped cream, a chocolate straw, and chocolate syrup, all on a plate that Brookie decorated with a stencil and some cocoa powder. The kids were impressed.
So it was a really full three-day weekend, but it was awesome. And that's what we did!
