Recent Date Nights
We are slowly coming to the realization that Savannah in large part determines whether or not we have a good date night. The past two are a great illustration of this principle.
Two weeks ago we decided to check out a new Indian restaurant in Lee's Summit called Mirchies. Neither of us had ever really been to an Indian eating establishment, which made choosing Mirchies a little difficult (especially with established favorites like Culver's also in the running for where to eat that night).
When we actually went in, after some last-minute deliberation in the parking lot, I was put somewhat at ease. It looked like so many other restaurants we had been to because it was following the "Café Rio" formula. If you've never been to a Café Rio, then just think of Chipotle, only cooler, with better food, and bigger portions. Basically, you stand in line and then they help you build your order, piece by piece. At Café Rio it's black or pinto beans; what kind of meat; and hot, medium, or mild salsa. At Mirchies it was coconut rice or brown rice, what kind of meat, and what kind of sauce.
The employees there were very nice, and didn't mind answering a few questions from some first-timers. We ended up with a bowl of coconut rice covered by a little of each meat they offer (pork, chicken, and beef), and topped with a cucumber-yogurt sauce. We also ordered some plain naan on the side.
The food was delicious. I was totally hooked and couldn't stop talking about how good it was and how impressed I was with this new place. The next time we go, we're bringing friends, which is the highest compliment we can pay a restaurant. The only trouble was that Savannah made us eat our dinner in the car.
For some unknown reason, she was extremely fussy that night, which turned into screaming, which made Brooke take her outside to calm her down. When they came back and she sat down, Savannah resumed her disruptive behavior, so we gathered up our food and went to the car. But even then, Savannah couldn't be left in her car seat, so we took turns holding her while the other one ate dinner.
The food was great, but the date night, not so much.
This past Friday was entirely opposite. Savannah must have approved of Blanc Burgers in Leawood, KS, because she was calm the entire time, allowing us to have a nice dinner together. We never even had to pick her up. She just quietly sat in her carseat, looking at the surrounding scenery. Part of the difference may be that we were seated on the patio, and Savannah loves being outside. When we got home, Brookie thanked me for a great date night—and I thanked Savannah.
Go to the board!
